About Me

Meet The Artist

Caitlin Wellwood is the artist creating the masterpieces for Wild Maiden Artistry. Caitlin is a multidisiplinary artist whose work blends acrylics and mixed media to create pieces that evoke both emotional depth and visual complexity. Her artistic journey began at the age of 11, while growing up in Southern California, when she began taking art lessons that sparked a lifelong passion. Caitlin pursued this passion academically, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Studio Art from California State University, Channel Islands.

Her work, rooted in the intersection of psychological insight and artistic expression, invites viewers to reflect on their own personal journeys, while also showcasing her continued growth and dedication to her craft. In addition to painting and drawings, Ms. Wellwood enjoys creating sustainable art and crafts that highlight her love of plants and nature, such as: propagation jars, moon wreaths, doormats, and painted garden pots. She has even expanded her artistic knowledge into the realm of sewing, longarm quilting, and pantography.

Throughout her career, Caitlin has worked in special education, and with at-risk youth, using her background in psychology to connect with and understand the world around her; a perspective that heavily influences her creative process. Her art reflects a deep exploration of the human experience; often using color, texture, and form to convey layered narratives.

In the Fall of 2019, Caitlin received an exciting and career-changing opportunity. For the next months, she worked tirelessly to create an entire gallery show, titled “The Awakening,”, that was to be held in Santa Barbara California, in March of 2020. Ms. Wellwood also had a commissioned painting displayed at Chase Restaurant on State St. at the same time. However, just weeks before the gallery show was to take place, it was cancelled indefinitely due to pandemic restrictions. This period brought many other unexpected life changes, including a cross-country move and a baby.

After settling into motherhood and a life in the heart of Texas, Caitlin redirected her focus back to her art, with a new sense of purpose: one that not only creates a sustainable living for herself and a legacy for her son, but one that also hopefully sparks creativity among the collective.

One more international relocation has her putting down roots in the heart of Alberta, with big plans for expanding artistic endeavors. Caitlin’s dream is to one day, through Wild Maiden Artistry, own an art cafe, a space where art and expression thrive. Creating a vibrant third space like this would invite individuals to engage, collaborate, and create together, cultivating a sense of belonging and shared experience through art; rather than at bars or clubs.

Wild Maiden Artistry is currently available for custom commission work, group art instruction, and live painting. For questions or inquires, please reach out via email at: [email protected].
